One of the immortal practices I will probably keep doing as long as I have a physical body is relaxing the perineal area in those moments when I notice I'm clenching. I classify this as stalking, and it comes from Olga Veremeeva's sessions.

At first glance, this exercise seems trivial, but it will seem that way only until you personally start practicing it regularly in your daily life.

Through experience, I've found that primary tensions as a reaction to external stimuli first arise in the perineal area — this is instinctive and normal. What's not normal is holding these tensions for a long time — that's how they grow into something bigger, spread to other parts of the body, become chronic tensions that get harder and harder to remove over time.

Any tension is a waste of energy; it needs to be grounded in time, and you need to learn to tense correctly, just as you need to learn to relax. The ability to consciously relax the perineal area (to start with) in situations where it's tense changes the nature of your standard way of reacting to a different one — more reasonable and economical in terms of life energy.

The energy you save — you can redirect it to what you usually wanted to finish but don't have time for for one reason or another — fatigue, procrastination, the desire to rest, lie down, relax after work, etc.

Having learned to give your body the command to relax in situations where it tenses up, and to enjoy it, you will most likely understand that through the body, mental relaxation has also become accessible to you. This is how we train self-control.

All these situations, irritating and, as it often seems to many, hindering the path of development — are actually your best training tools, created so that you have the opportunity to truly learn something.

Use them to your advantage — that's what they're meant for.

Good luck in your development!

With best wishes,
Arthur O'Harra.
